Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal on Thursday came down heavily on the state government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) over its failure to restore the Bellandur Lake.
The apex environmental tribunal, in its final order, ordered the Karnataka government to set aside Rs 500 crore for the rejuvenation of the lake, and gave it a month to come up with a detailed action plan to restore the lake. Further it directed the state government to pay a fine of Rs 50 crore to Central Pollution Control Board (CPWD) and handed a Rs 25 crore fine to the BBMP.
The NGT asked the Karnataka government to implement the recommendations made by the Panjwani committee, and to ensure that no pollutant waste is discharged into the lakes.
