Love failure: Youth jumps into a river, swims to safety!

Mangaluru: In a bizarre incident on Wednesday afternoon, a youth attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the river from Netravati Bridge and then in a sudden turn of events, swam to safety and survived. The youth is identified as Naufal (23), a resident of Tuminadu near Manjeshwar.
The youth was travelling along with his friend towards Mangaluru in a three-wheeler tempo at 2 pm in the afternoon. As the tempo was crossing the bridge, Naufal informed his friend that he was feeling nauseated and requested him to stop the vehicle. When the vehicle stopped, Naufal got out of the vehicle and jumped into the river. When people amassed to see what had happen, they found Naufal sitting on the slab of the pillar supporting the bridge! This incident also attracted a huge crowd of onlookers on the bridge.
The city south traffic inspector Gurudatta Kamath was at the location and was able to pull up Naufal from the slab with assistance from the gathered public. The victim was later handed over to Kankanady city police station.
When Kankanaday station inspector Ashok and staff questioned Naufal on the reason for his drastic step, he revealed that he was in love with a girl and had chosen to commit suicide due to love failure.
“Naufal is uninjured. His family was contacted, who arrived and he was sent off with the,” informed the police.
