Mobile internet services restored in Jammu

Jammu: Mobile internet services were today restored here after remaining suspended for more than 24 hours following protests over a sacrilegious act, police said.

The services were suspended yesterday as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours following protests over recovery of the carcass of an animal in the Sarore area, 15 kilometres from here, along the Jammu-Pathankote highway.

The decision to restore the mobile internet services at around 1.30 pm was taken as the situation in the region remained peaceful, a police official said. The protesters yesterday blocked the highway and clashed with the police who tried to persuade them to disperse. However, no one was injured in the brief clashes but some vehicles suffered damages due to stone-pelting by the mob.

He said the police has taken cognisance of the sacrilegious act and deployment of additional personnel has been made at sensitive places to maintain law and order.
