Mangaluru: The Muslim Central Committee has resolved at a meeting here on Wednesday to urge the Congress to field a Muslim candidate from Dakshina Kannada (DK) parliamentary constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

During the meeting it was decided to constitute an action committee to submit a memorandum to the Congress. It was also decided to rope in Ministers, such as U.T Khader, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, to prevail upon the Congress on this issue.

K.S. Mohammed Masood, president of the central committee and former MLC presided over the meeting and it was decided that if the Congress denied ticket to a Muslim candidate, the committee would decide on the next course of action.

There is a need to create awareness on the need to field a Muslim candidate from the constituency as none from the community have been fielded so far, observed Mr Masood.
