Thirthahalli: Manzoor Ahmed, the father of suspected terrorist Matheen, said the family has had no contact with his son ever since he went absconding in 2020.

Talking to reporters at his residence in Soppugudde, Manzoor Ahmed said, Mateen has not been in touch with the family since the Bengaluru incident. “I did not know that my son would become like this (terror suspect). We educated him so that h could lead a good life. He studied BE at a college in Bengaluru. Later he worked at a private company,” he said.

“Technology has advanced now. You don’t know what anyone is doing on mobile,” he added.

“On Monday morning, the police came to the house and investigated the Mangalore incident. They have checked what they wanted,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed had a message for his son. “All I can say to Matheen is – Come back and lead a good life,” he said.

Lakhs paid into sisters’ accounts:

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shariq, the prime suspect in the Mangaluru Autorickshaw blast, is being treated for burns in the hospital. A native of Thirthahalli, Shariq worked at his father’s garment shop.

Police on Monday raided four houses of his relatives in Thirthahalli and seized some important documents.

It is gathered that huge sums of money were being deposited from unknown sources into the bank accounts of Shariq’s sisters. It is also learned that there is a connection between the explosion on the banks of Tunga river in Shivamogga and the Mangaluru blast. Investigations are underway.
