Puttur: An auto rickshaw driver was fined for not wearing helmet by Puttur traffic police on Monday, July 30th. This goof up by the police had commuters wondering if the government had hurridly introduced a new rule making helmets mandatory for auto drivers. The rumour only caught more wind when the fine receipt given to the auto driver in question, went viral on social networks.

As per the reports, traffic cops from a Puttur station stopped auto rickshaw driver Vittala for ferrying more than 3 school children. But, the driver was perplexed when the cop fined him altogether Rs. 700 for also not wearing a helmet as well.

While the first violation by the driver on ferrying more than 3 schoolchildren was evident, the second violation of not wearing the helmet was incomprehensible for the driver as well as the netizens. The challan issued by the police PTR – 94807159 reads “without helmet” under the Nature of Offence section.

With the goof up going viral, the police immediately recalled the receipt and made the necessary correction.
