Police Raid Hindalga Jail in Belagavi after Tip-off on Plot to Murder Notorious Underworld Criminal

Belagavi: Following a tip-off about a plot to murder prisoner, notorious underworld gangster, as many as 400 police personnel along with dog squad raided Hindalga jail in Belagavi on Sunday and an intensive search was carried by the police teams led by police commissioner TG Krishna Bhatta. Two cell phones, 4 mobile phone chargers seized from the prisoners during the operation, sources said.
The search operation was also conducted following the allegations that law was being violated by jail staff and prisoners for illegal activities in the jail and its premises. Some sources alleged that, ganja, cell phones, deadly weapons and others widely used by the prisoners illegally.
Meanwhile, media reports stated that, a plot to murder underworld gangster Bannanje Raja in the jail might have prompted the police to carry an intensive operation in the jail and its premises on Sunday. However, no official information has been released by the police on the murder plot and search operation carried out. However, the police officers admitted that there is a murder plot to kill a trial prisoner, underworld criminal in the jail.
