Rai’s close aide Sanjeeva Poojary attacked

Bantwal: A Congress leader from Bantwal and his wife were attacked allegedly by BJP workers after the assailants barged into their house at Marnabail in Melkar, on Thursday night May 10th.

The severely injured Congress leader is Sanjeeva Poojary, President of Bantwal Congress Election Campaign Committee who is also a close aide of DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha  Rai. The Billava leader is also the President of the Brahmashree Narayana Guru Mandir .

The attack took place when Poojary returned home after finishing his campaigning for Rai. The assailants not only thrashed those in Poojary’s car but also proceeded to attack the inhabitants of the house and others. The assailants mercilessly attacked Poojary’s wife and also his employees.

Sanjeeva Poojary along with his employees Iqbal, Shanker and Ammi have suffered injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. Ramanatha Rai and other leaders arrived at the scene soon after the incident.

Four separate complaints have been lodged.  Congress leaders suspect the hands of local BJP leader Srikanth Shetty and his supporters.

On Thursday afternoon some BJP workers had created trouble alleging four liquor bottles were in a car which was heading to Sanjeeva Poojary’s house. The video went viral and the police are investigating if the video had anything to do with the attack.

Following the attack, security has been stepped up in the area.
