Shirva: Siddhivinayak temple built by a Christian man inaugurated

Shirva: Lord Siddhivinayaka temple, built by former entrepreneur and an ardent devotee of Lord Siddhivinayaka, Gabriel Nazareth at Shirva has been inaugurated on Thursday, July 15.

Speaking on the occasion, Udupi Palimar Math, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji., said, ” Lord Siddhivinayaka built by Gabriel Nazareth is a model for the entire world. Also, let Lord Vinayaka drive away all the problems faced by the world and grant peace to all human beings.”

The temple inauguration programmes are being held from July 14 to 16.  On Wednesday evening, Bimbadhivasa and Vastu Aghora Homa were conducted and on Thursday morning, Tatwa Homa, Shakti Yaga, Peethika Yaga, Bimba Prathishte, night Bhadramandala Puja etc were held.  On Friday morning Gana Homa and Brahmakalashotsava are being performed.

Gabriel Fabian Nazareth, a resident of Halehithlu near Shirva is a devotee of Siddhivanayak.

It is said that in 1959, at the age of 14, he completed his schooling and went to Mumbai. He resided near Prabhadevi Sri Siddhivinayaka temple. He worshipped Sri Siddhivinayak daily and worked hard to earn his living.

He then established a plastic and metal dye-making workshop near the temple. In 40 years, he established three branches of his workshop

Later, he sold his business in Mumbai and settled in his hometown. 12 years later, he built the Sri Siddhivinayak temple in the 12 cents land he received from his father.

Gabriel, who is unmarried, has donated money to several people, irrespective of caste or religion. He also donates  Rs 5 lakhs per year for the education of poor children.
