Mangaluru: Students Islamic Organisation of India expressed solidarity towards students of St Ann’s School students who are currently protesting against an opening of a bar near their school premises and assured entire support for their struggle.

Students Islamic Organisation of India’s District President Talha Ismail K P visited the St Ann’s School at Kuntikan in Mangaluru on Tuesday and pledged his organisation’s support to the ongoing post card campaign as well as movement launched by the students against the bar and restaurant opened within 100 meters from the school premises. The students have demanded that permission should be granted only to the restaurant and that the  bar should be closed.

Ismail who addressed the students  said any movement fought with determination would succeed. He also cited a Supreme Court ruling  that there can be no sale of intoxicants and tobacco products within a 100 meter radius of a school.

He further said the SIO would join hands with the students in their fight.

SIO District Campus Secretary Afnan Hasan, School Headmistress Sr. Shantha, Correspondent Sister Shanthi and others were present.

It may be recalled that due to the protest by the students, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, who was supposed to inaugurate the bar and restaurant on December 7 at Kuntikana Junction, returned without inaugurating the bar.

The owner of the bar and the restaurant has been stating that all rules have been followed and he had procured a license for it.
