West Bengal: 7 killed, 2 injured as Maruti van collides with potato truck

Bardhaman: Seven people were killed and two others injured in a major road accident in Kanksa area of Burdwan district in West Bengal on Sunday.

The accident occurred when a Maruti van carrying nine people collided with a potato laden truck near Moragram under Kankasa police station.

The people were returning after seeing a fair organized in Patharchapuri area of Birbhum district.

The collision was so forceful that five people were killed on the spot.

The remaining four passengers were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment, where two persons succumbed to injuries taking the death toll to seven.

The condition of the two injured persons is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating into the tragedy and the driver of the truck is still on the run.

More than a dozen big accidents have occurred in Burdwan district in the past one week in which so far more than 20 people have died.
