Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is planning to offer medical courses from next year.

The announcement was made by IISc director Govindan Rangarajan at the convocation ceremony on Wednesday, which was held virtually.

Director Govindan Rangarajan said that IISc first offered studies in General Chemistry when it began in 1909 and electrical technology and organic chemistry departments succeeded later.

“After about 100 years of excellence in science and engineering, we are planning to start a postgraduate medical school on campus,” Rangarajan said.

Earlier, former Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had confirmed that IISc and IIT Kharagpur would soon offer medical courses.
