Presence of mind: Police staff averts a fire disaster

Mangaluru: A major fire disaster was averted by the traffic police through their presence of mind after a fire broke out at the old petrol bunk along the P M Rao road in the city on Thursday.
Traffic constable Shivamurthy Naik was doing his duty nearby when he observed smoke and fire. The garbage which had been piled up here and the bone-dry grass had caught fire. Immediately, Mr Naik rushed to the location, procured water from the nearby shops and successfully doused the fire.
There were several cars parked nearby. A mall and many shops were in the vicinity of the incident. Since fire can spread rapidly through the dry grass, the constable made use of the water to contain the fire and then douse it. The presence of mind and action of the constable Shivamurthy Naik has receive widespread appreciation from the people.
