Mangaluru: The elections to the post of mayor and deputy mayor for Mangaluru city is likely to be held in the next week. A gazette notification with regard to the election has been published on Wednesday nearly two months after the elections to the Council of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) was held on November 13, 2019.
Registering its best-ever performance in the history of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council elections, the BJP emerged victorious with 44 seats out 60 wards.
The elections will be held as per the reservation criteria fixed by the then Congress-JD(S) coalition, and accordingly, the post of mayor has been earmarked for a candidate from backward A category. Given this criterion, Jayanand Anchan, corporator of Kadri Padavu ward, and Diwakar of Cantonment ward are the front runners for the post.
The elections will be held in the presence of Mysuru regional commissioner once the date is notified.
