Attack on rickshaw driver – Police arrest 9 persons

Mangaluru: Members of a notorious gang that tried to kill an auto rickshaw driver have been successfully nabbed by the city police on October 22, Tuesday.
The arrested are as Nithin Poojary, Dhanaraj, Shivanand Achari, Ganesh, Jeevan Poojary, Santhosh Poojary, Dheeraj Safalya, Raghavendra Poojary and Pranesh Poojary.
Incident synopsis
On Wednesday October 16, four men were seen creating commotion under the influence of alcohol in a temple in the city suburbs when auto rickshaw driver Santhosh (35) saw it, opposed them and sent them away after shouting at them.
Angered by the humiliation, the men draw a plan to eliminate Santhosh. As per the plan, the gang attacked Santhosh with machetes when he was returning home near Bitthupade, Neermarga on his bike on October 17 and fled.
In the attack, Santhosh suffered grievous injuries to his leg, forehead and hand. His left hand finger was broken. He was rushed to a hospital immediately.
A police case in this connection was registered in Mangaluru rural police station.
