As per the new policy, vehicles entering and exiting the airport can do so without being stopped at any point and only vehicles entering designated parking areas will have to pay parking charges, informed director of Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) V V Rao.

The new parking charges that will be applicable from today are as follows:

In case of two wheelers, a parking fee of Rs 10 has been fixed for up to 30 minutes, Rs 15 for up to two hours and Rs 5 extra will be charged per hour for parking beyond two hours and up to seven hours.

Similarly, in case of cars the parking fee for a time period of up to 30 minutes is fixed at Rs 20, for 30 minutes to two hours at Rs 55 and Rs 10 extra per hour beyond two hours and up to seven hours. Tempos, SUVs and mini-buses will be charged Rs 30 for parking up to 30 minutes, Rs 60 up to two hours and Rs 10 extra per hour beyond two hours and up to seven hours.

The parking rates from 7 hours to 24 hours will be 300% of 30 minutes to 120 minutes and every 24 hour or part thereof.

Passengers entering and leaving the airport will be more comfortable with the new system as they will not be stopped or blocked at the entry or exit points. The charges for vehicles have to be paid only if the vehicles enter the designated area only.

With this new system, vehicles will not be not permitted to park or stop at the entry and exit roads or lanes or in front of terminal building for more than three minutes. Defaulters will be slapped a penalty of four times the applicable parking charges for 30 minutes to two hours slab, informed V V Rao.

A fully covered canopy has been provided in front of the terminal building and entry of vehicles to the flyover from arrival side is restricted, the director said.
