CEC says total voters in state may cross 5 crore

Bengaluru: The number of enlisted voters in the state for the May 12 Assembly elections will cross five crore, said Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar. 

Addressing the media on Saturday, Kumar stated: “There are as of now 4.96 crore voters in the state, the new voters are enlisting themselves in substantial numbers. The third sex group, tribals and migrants have additionally enlisted their names in the list, this will take the number of voters past five crores.” 

The Election Commission has set up 58,000 poll stalls over the state, where 3.65 lakh staff will be conveyed for election work. At least five dedicated all-women polling booths called ‘pink polling booths ‘ will be set up in city areas and one booth in villages,” he added.

To encourage the physically challenged and senior citizens to cast their votes, the Election Commission will set up booths in the basements of the building and, authorities have attempted an survey to create such devoted stalls, Kumar said.
